Something about bears in Bulgaria
You find bears in the Balkan Mountains , the Rhodopi Mountains and the Rila Mountains . The brown bear is up to 250 cm long and usually it weights from 250 kg and up when it is for shooting. Over 825 bears are registered in Bulgaria . It is well known that it is climbing trees, bathing and swimming. The fur is long, thick and dark brown – especially during the winter period. The Bulgarian brown bear is hibernating – with only few exceptions. The mating is taking place during May/June and it gives birth in January for about 1-3 cubs of 250-400 g. They are born blind and will get sight after 30 days. The female is together with the cubs in 2 years and that’s the reason why it only gets with cubs every second year. The Bulgarian brown bear lives in the most quiet and peaceful mountain areas and they are both carnivore and herbivore. They eat everything from fruit, berries, juicy grasses and mice and also they like to take a beehive when possible. They enter orchards and corn fields. A few ones are attacking the cattle in the mountains and the carnivore brown bears are considered to be dangerous to man. You must obtain a special license before the hunt. The common method of hunt in Bulgaria is stalking or from a high seat.
